The top of my GRP® HOT YOGA MAT 6mm/ GRP® LITE HOT YOGA MAT 4MM is wearing off where I place my hands/feet - is this normal?:Updated 2 years ago

Our GRP Series Yoga Mats have an open-cell surface which allows absorption of all moisture and sweat. That’s why they’re great for hot yoga as they maintain grip throughout your practice. But it also means the GRP Series Yoga Mats will break down over time with use as the materials continually work hard to absorb and grip.

The GRP® HOT YOGA MAT 6mm/ GRP® LITE HOT YOGA MAT 4MM both have a tri-layer construction, with the top layer being the thinnest. This construction allows moisture into the charcoal-infused natural rubber core, which works to absorb sweat and eliminate odor. With regular use over time, the top layer will start to show patches of wear, usually where the hands and feet are continually placed during yoga practice. Eventually, this can lead to surface pieces flaking off. This is not a manufacturing defect but rather the progression of a well-used mat.
