My eKO Mat Has Become Sticky. What Does This Mean?Updated 3 hours ago
A sticky surface is usually a sign that the natural rubber has been affected by environmental conditions or improper care.
The most common causes are prolonged exposure to heat or direct sunlight, which can accelerate the breakdown of natural rubber. Stickiness can also occur if the mat has been cleaned with products that are not suitable for natural rubber or if it has been rolled up and stored while damp.
Because the eKO Series is made from natural, biodegradable rubber, the material will naturally age over time. As the rubber breaks down, the surface may become sticky and, in some cases, may begin to transfer color.
Unfortunately, once a mat has become sticky, the damage is permanent and the mat cannot be restored to its original condition.
To help prevent this, store your mat in a cool, dry place, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, allow it to dry completely before rolling, and use only approved care products formulated for natural rubber mats.
